Introduction: Monocytes/macrophages (Mo/MØ) are the main target for Mtb. In chronic diseases, such as TB, circulating Mo arriving to the site of infection are the best candidates for the renewal of MØ and dendritic cells and their capacity to deal with Mtb defines the progression of the infection. Mo comprise at least two subsets: a CD14+CD16- population, also CCR2+, and a CD14+CD16+, also CX3CR1+/ CCR5high. Objective: Characterization of chemokine receptors in Mo subsets from TB. Methods: Mononuclear cells were isolated from peripheral blood (PB) and pleural effusion (PE) by Ficoll-Hypaque. Fluorochromes conjugated monoclonal antibodies were used to measure membrane receptor expression and AV-binding to asses apoptosis by flow cytometry.
