ACTIVITY OF ORGANIC EXTRACTS FROM PUNA SPECIES OF Fabiana sp. (SOLANACEAE) AGAINST ANTIBIOTIC RESISTANT STRAINS

Abstract: Fabiana bryoides Phil., Fabiana punensis S.C.Arroyo, Fabiana densa J. Rémy, grow in the northwest of Argentina and are used like antiseptic in popular medicine. The purpose of the present study was realized extraction of antimicrobial agent of aerial parts of them in different solvents systems. The fractions were obtained with Soxhlet from dry plant material using: Hexane, Chloroform, EtOAc, MeOH. Bioautography assays by dot blot against resistant strains isolated from clinical samples: S. aureus, E. faecalis, P. aeruginosa and E. coli were used. The active fraction (150 µg of each fraction) was developed in different solvent system. Then, bioautography assays were done. The obtained fractions with Hexane, Chloroform and AcOEt were more active than MeOH fraction principally against Gram (+) bacteria. F. punensis ethyl acetate fraction had widest activity spectrum. The obtained results until moment justify the traditional use of these species.
