Resumen:
Flowering is promoted by endogenous cues as plant age and by distinct environmental cues, such as daylength and temperature. Plants are only sensitive to environmental cues whenthey reach adult vegetative phase.SQUAMOSA PROMOTER BINDING-LIKE (SPL) transcription factors, known to promoteflowering, are negative regulated by the miR156/157 family. The transition from juvenile to adultphase is regulated by a decline in the abundance of miR156/157, which results in an increase inthe expression of SPL.Low temperatures delay flowering in most species, but little is known about the mechanismsunderlaying this repression. We found that SPL3 expression is reduced in cold and propose thatthis regulation is caused by a member of miR157 family. Interestingly, exposure to lowtemperatures involves a shift in phase of the miRNA to fine-tuning the flowering at coldtemperatures by modulating SPL3 expression
