Resumen:
Superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPIONs), like magnetite (Fe3O4) and maghemite (-Fe2O3), have received great attention due to bio-medical and environmental applications. We reported here the eco-compatible electrochemical synthesis of SPIONs with gallic acid (GA) ?green? capping and their characterization. The diameter of GA-SPIONs was 9±2nm (high resolution transmission electron microscopy; HR-TEM) and their hydrodynamic diameter was 26±3 nm (dynamic light scattering; DLS). The magnetization curve (vibrating sample magnetometer; VSM), did not show hysteresis indicating their superparamagnetic nature. GA-coating, confirmed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), improved their dispersion. The phase identification of uncoated SPIONs by X-ray diffraction (XRD) method indicates spinel structure compatible with both Fe3O4 and -Fe2O3 phases. Room-temperature Mössbauer spectrum and its isomer shift showed -Fe2O3 particles with a size distribution in the nanoscale.
