Resumen:
Since the rise of Green Chemistry, multicomponent reactions have gained great importance in organic synthesis, as well as the use of heterogeneous catalysis. For this reason, the commercialheteropolyacids (KC and PC) were turned into heterogeneous catalyst by sol-gel technique. As anillustration of the advantages in combining heterogeneous catalysis with multicompnent processes, the three-component synthesis of trifluoromethylated hexahydropyrimidines is carried out using Keggin (KCSiO2) and Preyssler (PCSiO2) heteropolyacids encapsulated in a silica framework as catalysts . The synthesized compounds have promised bioactivity, due to the presence of thetrifluoromethyl group.A set of 17 hexahydropyrimidines was obtained as only one diastereomer with excellent yields, up to 98%. The catalysts showed to be reusable with no differences in the reaction yields after 4 runs. In addition, the presented methodology is environmental attractive due the fact that it requires shorter reaction times and solvent-free conditions, with respect to previously reported methodology
