Descripción:
The work proposed here is part of a broader effort aimed at improved safety and energy densityin Li-ion cells with focus on the development of scalable fabrication methods for the synthesis ofnew electrode and electrolyte materials and demonstration of their longer term cycle andcalendar life as a function of operating temperature and duty cycle. A general aim is todemonstrate complete cell Li-ion chemistry that meets safety and energy density requirementsfor PHEVs.In this context, Magna Advanced Technologies is interested in the development of tools (usingnumerical simulation) for testing new battery cell designs, focus on:• size/capacity,• dimensions,• materials and chemistry,• environmental applicationand by predicting cell performance and life, taking into account:• cycle life,• IR/efficiency (with individual contribution of sub-systems such as separator, electrolyte, active material, etc)• Maximum power the cell can deliver• Maximum energy the cell can store. It is also an objective of this joint project, to develop simulation tools for predicting possiblecircumstances of failures, and their corresponding experimental corroboration.
