Resumen:
Aquifers in many regions of Mexico currently have an increased concentration of fluoride due to natural contamination, exceeding the current allowable limit set by the Mexican Official Standards (1.5 mg L-1). Thus various techniques have been proposed for the removal of this ion present in subsoil water, however they have some disadvantages. In order to minimize the drawbacks of the adsorptive processes, the removal using an ion exchange resin bed and then the fluoride transport by applying an electric field gradient was studied. Also, the Electrodeionization technique was assessed, and the results of both techniques were compared. According to the results about the fluoride removal percentage, the Electrodeionization process showed better efficiency, allowing to obtain water within the permissible limit in 420 min with an energy consumption of 704.9 kW h m-3.
