Resumen:
The generic name for the extinct Antarctic mammal Xenostylus peninsularis Goin et al. 1999 (p. 346, Fig. 6; Marsupialia, Didelphimorphia, Derorhynchidae) is preoccupied by Xenostylus Bates 1885 (Insecta, Coleoptera, Cerambycidae). According to Article 53 and Article 60 of the current edition of the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature (ICZN 1999), the name of the extinct marsupial becomes a junior homonym, and it must be rejected and replaced. Therefore, Xenostylos is proposed as the new generic name for the Antarctic derorhynchid X. peninsularis. The new name retains the same etymological meaning as the previous one.
