Resumen:
The oomycete Phytophthora infestans, the causal agent of potato late blight (LB), is one of the most devastating pathogens affecting potato crops worldwide.P. infestans ability to infect relies on the secretion of an arsenal of proteins and small mollecules collectively called ?effectors?, that interfere with host defenses and metabolism.LB is one of the most important diseases affecting potato production in Argentina, since 90% of potato cultivated area for the open market corresponds to the susceptible cultivar Spunta.LB management relies on chemical control but many of the popular fungicides/oomycides face increasingly rigorous regulations due to environmental and human health concerns. Our main objective is to study the effector repertoire and allelic diversity in local P. infestans isolates. As effectors recognition by plant immune receptors is crucial for resistance, this knowledge will be essential for breeding sustainable and durable late blight resistance in potato. In this report, we describe the isolation and characterization by Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS) and RNAseq of an argentinean P. infestans isolate in its interaction with the widely used Spunta cultivar.
