THE PRODUCTION OF FUR AND REPRODUCERS ARE THE OBJECTIVE OF THE INTENSIVE BREEDING OF CHINCHILLA LANIGERA.pAREMETERS TO EVALUATE THE QUALITY OF SEMEN OF THE REPRODUCERS DO NOT EXIST. iN THIS SENSE, THE ESTABLISHMENT OF STANDARS FOR SEMEN IN THIS SPECIES THAT WILL ALLOW THE CARACTERIZATION OF THE BEST REPRODUCERS IS OF GREAT INTEREST. tHE AIM OF THIS STUDY IS TO DETERMINE THE PARTICIPATION OF THE GABA A RECEPTOR IN THE ACROSOME REACTION OF SPERM OBTAINED FROM EPIDIDYMUS TAIL. tHE SAMPLES WERE SUSPENDED IN HTFm+hSA(TUBARIC HUMAN FLUID + SYNTETIC HUMAN ALBUMIN-IRVINE SCIENTIFIC). aS AGONIST AND ANTAGONIST OF THE GABA A RECEPTOR WE USED MUSCIMOL AND PICROTOXIN RESPECTIVELY. vITALITY WAS DETERMINED BY MEANS OF EOSIN 0.05% IN PBS. MOTILITYWAS EVALUATED 200 CELLS. tHE ACROSOME REACTION WAS EVALUATED WITH THE PAPANICOLAOU STAIN MODIFIED FOR SPERM.rESULTS INDICATE THAT THE STIMULATION OF GABA A RECEPTORS BY MUSCIMOL INDUCED THE ACROSOME REACTION IN A DOSE DEPENDENT MANNER, AN EFFECT WHICH WAS INHIBITED BY TREATMENT WITH PRICROTOXIN. vITALITY AND MOTILITY WERE NOT SIGNIFICANTLY AFFECTED. THESE RESULTS SUGGEST THE PARTICIPATION OF GABA A RECEPTOR IN THE ACROSOME REACTION OF CHINCHILLA LANIGERA SPERM.
