In this GAP note, we introduce a feature present in the binary channel of theunderground muon detector (UMD): the fast-shaper undershoot. Understanding itseffects is necessary to determine the best reconstruction strategy for the binary channel. We present evidence of this feature in data, along with the validation of theUMD Off line simulation in the undershoot region with laboratory measurements.Being these fairly consistent, we perform a toy Monte-Carlo to show the potentialimpact of the fast-shaper undershoot in the reconstruction of the number of muonswith air shower data.
