Study on the optical fiber attenuation of the UMD using the binary channel

In this GAP note, we present a study on the optical fiber attenuation in the UMD using more thantwo and a half years of data of the binary channel. For each scintillator in the field, the mean numberof ones in the trace over the events was computed. Consistently with laboratory measurements, thisobservable showed a clear anti correlation with the fiber length, which is attributed to the attenuationof photons in the fiber. Finally, a phenomenological model was used to fit the data to obtain anoverall characterization of the attenuation in the scintillators fibers.
