Resumen:
In this paper, I will examine patterns of civil-military relations in Argentina from 1880 to 1999, focusing on one specific aspect of these relations, namely, the occurrence of successful military interventions or coups d´etat. The focus will be on the conditions that inhibited or fostered the formation of "interventionist coalitions", that is, the alliances between military and civilian actors that precede an intervention. In brief, I will attempt to explain the process that led dominant groups, political actors, and the armed forces to coalesce and carry out an intervention.
