Resumen:
The objective of this study was to evaluate the catalytic reduction of nitrate in aqueous medium at different pH values and with two reducing agents: hydrogen gas and formic acid. For this purpose we used a Pd-In/Al2O3 catalyst. Among the conditions studied, pH 5 was the most suitable value with both reducing agents, providing nitrate conversions of 100% and 99.5%, for hydrogen and formic acid, respectively. Selectivity to nitrogen gas was 66.8% with hydrogen and 67.1% with formic acid. At the same conversion, catalytic results yielded similar N2 selectivites, above 95% , at acid pH.
