Abstract. Catalysts containing potassium and/or cobalt on different supports are studied in order to determine the reaction mechanism and the role of the support. Lanthanum oxide, cerium oxide and magnesium oxide are compared. The thermal stability of the catalysts as well as the resistance to water and sulfur in the gas phase are addressed. Preliminary experiments using barium as catalytic trap for NOx and the simultaneous removal of Nox and soot are also presented.
