Resumen:
N-(Phosphonomethyl)glycine (Glyphosate) degradation in aqueous solutions was studied by means of a photo-Fenton system. A commercial zeolite Y was modified with iron by the wet impregnation method to be used as heterogeneous Fenton catalyst. The material was physicochemically characterized by means of XRD, DRS UV-Vis and TPR. Small and well dispersed hematite nanoparticles were found. Glyphosate degradation was followed by ion chromatography. After 4 h of reaction, glyphosate was completely eliminated employing Y-6Fe as heterogeneous photo-Fenton catalyst. Adsorption tests showed less than 25% of the agrochemical reduction. The herbicide was extremely stable, since photolysis reactions did not show changes. Hydrogen peroxide concentration was also studied, resulting in 50 mmol/l as optimal. Reaction pH showed that good degradation results could be obtained even at neutral conditions (pH 7). In order to study catalyst stability, Fe leaching was evaluated.
