The Galactic Center at TeV energies: observations from a Southern Hemisphere experiment

We have observed the Galactic Center region at TeV energies from a southern hemisphere site at CASLEO (Complejo Astronómico El Leoncito), San Juan, Argentina. Observations have been taken using an array of three small Cherenkov telescopes operating in drift scan mode. For the array configuration and trigger condition, simulations indicate a 800 GeV energy threshold for gamma-ray events. Observations were made during 1995 and 1996 showing an upper limit to the integral flux for the Galactic Center (GC) as a point source of 4.5x10^-11 photons cm^-2 s^-1.
