The debate about past human use of forest environments in Patagonia has been usually based on information from stratigraphic contexts. Data derived from the study of surface materials are scarce probably due to low archaeological visibility. But surface material involves a different spatial scale than statigraphical ones. The aim of this paper is to present new information about lithic tools, debitage and cores from surface archaeological contexts localized at Cholila (Chubut). The final goal is to characterize technological decisions made by hunter ? gatherers in forested environments during Late Holocene. Results of the analysis of lithic materials from 19 loci, with different archaeological densities and functions are presented and they suggest that we are facing a different scenario than that of a sporadic use of the forest, as was postulated in recent archaeological literature.
