Resumen:
Chikungunya virus (CHIKV), an alphavirus that causes chikungunya fever, is transmitted to humans by Aedes mosquitoes. The adaptation of the virus to Aedes albopictus, and the spread of this species into temperate climates have led to a remarkable expansion of the disease, the most recently documented outbreak in the Caribbean countries. The mortality rate associated to chikungunya fever is low, but the morbidity is high and very disabling. There are still no drugs or vaccines available for the treatment or prevention of the disease. So, there is a need for the discovery of compounds that are able to effectively and selectively interfere with the replication of CHIKV. In our research group, we have reported on a family of compounds named [1,2,3]triazolo[4,5-d]pyrimidin-7(6H)-ones that inhibit CHIKV replication.
