Resumen:
The metropolization of many of the LatinAmerican cities finds its origins in the growing expansion of the urban area inthe main city and the consequent emergence of different types of urbanizationson the edges of the city. The metropolitan territory thus emerges as a highlyheterogeneous space with diffuse borders. Since most attention has been focusedon mega-cities of the region, there is an evident need for comparative studiesof medium-sized metropolises, which take into account the great endogenouspotential of population redistribution and the expansion of its area as aresult of the residential mobility that these cities have. Hence, this articleanalyzed the metropolitan expansion of six selected middle-size metropolitan citiesof Argentina, Brazil and Mexico, based on the estimation of the patterns andflows of recent intra-metropolitan migration according to data from the 2010censuses.  It is expected that theresults may provide empirical evidence on the role of intra-metropolitanmigrations in the urban restructuring processes of metropolitan spaces and inthe change in the demographic composition of the areas of origin anddestination of these migratory flows.
