DOI: 10.1002/ejoc.201501189 In this work, we present a room light- or solar-initiatedtransition metal-free radical homolytic aromatic substitution (HAS)reaction of aniline derivatives with perfluoroalkyl moieties employingperfluoroalkyl halides as readily-available perfluoroalkyl sources inthe presence of cesium carbonate as base and inexpensive RoseBengal as organophotocatalyst in MeCN as solvent, renderingperfluoroalkyl-substituted aniline derivatives in good-to-excellentyields, even upon scaling up. Although the mechanism of thisreaction is still under investigation, we shall present some evidencebased on competitive substitution rate experiments that cast somelight into the reaction intermediates.
