Resumen:
5-HT plays a role in the development of psychiatric disorders such as anxiety, depression or addiction problems (A. Bonnin & Levitt, 2011; Lin, Lee, & Yang, 2014; Olivier, 2015; Velasquez, Goeden, & Bonnin, 2013).Alterations in the serotonergic system, particularly, in the serotonin transporter (SERT) gene are considered biomarkers of developmental disorders such as autistic spectrum disorders (Loth et al., 2016; Muller, Anacker, & Veenstra-VanderWeele, 2016, 2015).5-HT system is one of the first neurotransmitter systems to develop, with functional neurons in the raphe nucleus as early as embryonic day (E) 9.5-12 in mice, However, brain 5-HT synthesis does not begin to contribute to forebrain 5-HT levels until E16.5 and is instead supplied by the placenta (Deneris & Gaspar, 2018).Anxiety disorders are comorbid with another disorders, such as alcohol abuse and dependenceTherefore, it is possible that serotonergic depletion during the embryonic period not only generates social or autistic-like deficits, but also a greater propensity to experience anxiety-related behaviors.
