Resumen:
¿Sabías Que? Una intervención para prevenir consumo problemático de alcohol en jóvenes argentinos / ¿Sabías Que? An intervention to prevent problematic alcohol consumption in young ArgentiniansPresenter: Dr. Ricardo M PautassiDescriptive norms for alcohol use are beliefs on the extension of use of this drug by social reference groups. Prevention programs based on these norms are aimed at challenging cognitive biases between these beliefs and actual alcohol use. To our knowledge, such programs have not been applied to prevent or alcohol use in Latin-America. We applied an intervention program, based on the social norms model, to prevent alcohol use in high-school students of Córdoba, Argentina. We asked on actual alcohol consumption and perceived alcohol consumption of classmates. We analyzed the data, searching for discrepancies between both measures and devised a 30 min normative feedback session, that was accompanied by posters left in the classroom. The intervention, when compared to a control group not exposed to the normative feedback sessions nor the posters, reduced the amount of drinks drank per occasion, the number of drinking days and perceptions on alcohol use by the classmates, among other variables.
