Resumen:
Chemical and physical agents that induce oxidative stress were used on Bufo arenarum embryos, showing the possibility to mitigate its adverse effects or to exacerbate them. In the first case, lethal photodynamic (PD) effects were prevented by pretreatment with antioxidants (glutathione, ascorbate). Likewise, the lethality induced by ultraviolet B light (UVB) was prevented with Zn and Se pretreatments. Zn also protected against the lethality produced by Cu, Al, Cd, Ni, and Pb. For the synergic response, the lethality of embryos treated with PD + Zn, UVB + Ni, and 2,4-D + Cu, was higher than expected from single treatments. These results indicate that the AMPHITOX test is useful to evaluate adverse and beneficial effects of physicochemical agents in relation to oxidative stress.
