Recently, the number of studies and metabolomic approaches have increased, aswell as those of transcriptomics, proteomics and other omics and their applications inmedicine. Metabolomic studies have also being applied to investigate the possiblecauses of different human diseases and thus lead us to a better prediction of diseasesusceptibility and design therapeutic strategies to improve their treatments. Theinteraction of the metabolomes from different organisms has been little explored andhow this could affect the diagnosis or treatment of different abnormal or pathologicalconditions. In this review we will analyze some examples of how greater knowledge ofthe metabolism of plant organisms could be useful in improving human health.
