This paper, part of a larger research on what can be identified as a process of consolidation of literature in Tucumán in the 1940s, recovers the important role performed by Marcos A. Morínigo, a professor of literature during the fist years of the Facultad de Filosofía y Letras, Universidad Nacional de Tucumán, in that process. Morínigo?s career, his activity in the province, his Literature lectures, his relationship with young local writers and the project of Cántico ?a poetry review founded and directed by him?, are some of the aspects analyzed below. Among other things, that analysis shows Morínigo?s special concern for promoting a literature and a literary criticism conceived as rigorous, serious and specific practices, different from other practices of cultural activity. Such gesture can be seen as a probable symptom of the intention of creating a literary field in Tucumán.
