In Argentina, in January 2021, Law 27610 on Voluntary Interruption of Pregnancy came into effect, allowing voluntary abortion until week 14 and without time restrictions in cases of rape or risk to the health of the woman, girl, or pregnant person. From a feminist and collective health perspective, this law poses significant challenges in the implementation processes of sexual and reproductive rights policies within the healthcare system. Employing a qualitative methodological strategy based on documentary analysis techniques, we first conduct an analysis of the background to establish the political conditions stemming from activism and institutional factors. Second, we explore the law’s acquisition and the formulation of its implementation. Third, we examine the obstacles and barriers in institutional access to the law. Fourth, we delve into the development of the policy in action, emphasizing the connections between healthcare personnel, government officials, and activists, aiming to comprehend the relationships between state intervention, practices, and experiences.
