Resumen:
Phenol andits derivates are present in several industries effluents. These compounds are highlytoxic and not biodegradable [1]. Its degradation to carbon dioxide and water, via the Catalytic Wet Peroxide Oxidation (CWPO) is an interesting alternativeto eliminate them from these effluents since low temperatures and atmosphericpressure can be applied by using an adequate catalyst. Copper and iron-basedcatalysts are amongst the most studied catalysts for this reaction due to theirgood catalytic performance. Nevertheless, Cu and Fe leaching to the reactionmedia generated by the drop of pH is still an issue to be solved [2]. Structuredcatalystshaveadvantages over powder ones, associated to the versatility in their design and,in liquid-phase reactions related to the simplicity of the catalyst removalfrom the reaction media. In a previous work of our group we found that the ironfrom wire-meshes used as substrates prevented Cu leaching [3]. Consideringthese aspects, the objective of this work is to analyze the effect of Fe as aco-active phase in Cu-based catalysts supported on alumina and not supportedusing a substrate that is not composed by iron: cordierite monoliths.
