Resumen:
Ghrelin is a potent orexigenic peptide hormone that acts through the growth hormone secretagogue receptor(GHSR), a G protein coupled receptor highly expressed in the central nervou ssystem. GHSR display savery high constitutiv eactivity ,whose physiological relevance remains uncertain. Plasma ghrelin levels and hypothalamic GHSR gene expression increase in fasting conditions in order to cope with the negative energy balance condition. Here we use mice to test the hypothesis that the constitutive GHSR activity at the hypothalamic level drives the compensatory hyperphagia during refeeding after a fast ingevent.
