Resumen:
The success of immunization programs depends, up to some extent on a precise characterization of the viral strains that circulate in the field and on the evaluation of their similarity with the strains used to prepare the vaccines. At present several biochemical techniques are available like RNA fingerprinting, recombinant DNA and rapid sequencing to study, with significant precision, the genetic characteristics of the viral strains. The two-dimensional analysis of RNase T1 resistent oligonucleotides is adequately fit to evaluate the evolutive paths between closely related viral strains, and in particular, for foot-and-mouth disease virus, it has been successfully applied for diagnosis approaches.
