Resumen:
The purpose of this paper is to provide a comparativeanalysis of a set of laws and bills that were submitted in eight Latin Americancountries (Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Guatemala, Mexico, Paraguay andPeru) on privacy and protection of personal data during the first two decadesof the 21st century. In specific terms, the research aims to: a) Characterizein comparative and diachronic terms the type of policymaking initiatives onprivacy and personal dataaddressed by the legislativebranches of government in the above mentioned countries; b) Classify andcompare the main issues addressed in the texts of said policymaking initiatives;c) Examine to what extent this set of policymaking initiatives may affect theexercise of the right to freedom of expression online; d) Provide insights on the regulatory trends and the legislativechallenges that arise to regulate over these issues inthe Latin American digital landscape.
