Resumen:
The species belonging to the Ceratopogonidae family (Diptera: Nematocera) which female are fed by vertebrates blood, are grouped in four genus: Austroconops Wirth & Lee, Culicoides Latreille, Forcipomyia Meigen (Subgenus Lasiohelea Kieffer) and Leptoconops Skuse. The first of these genus of Australian exclusively distribution. The three of the rest are represented in a Neotropical Region. Several species of these have a great importance in medical and veterinarian entomology (Mellor et al., 2000). In opened areas, beaches and tourists zones, they can also turn into unbearable ones (Hendry & Godwing, 1988). The present work offers a dichotomy key with illustrations about structures with a great diagnosis value of these genus in the region. These representative specimens are deposited in the Collection of the Museo de Ciencias Naturales de La Plata, Argentina. They were obtained in different captures, with CDC light traps and CO2 complement, entomological net and human bait. All these material were slide mounted in Canada Balsam, following Wirth & Marston techniques (1968). The detailed study about anatomic structures allowed us to distinguish genus because of a serie of characters, which have been seen with an Optical Microscope and then, for more details, the use of Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM).
