Resumen:
The assessment of geographical and botanical origin is a topic of high interest around the world. This assessment is related to the international market of food raw materials. The chemometric tools appear as new analytical complements which, in recent years, were successfully used to determine the geographical and botanical origin of food raw materials or to detect possible adulterations. The classification can be possible using different analysis criteria, such as minor and trace elements, as well as sugars and other components by the chemometric analysis. This review covers all reported multivariate methods from January 1999 to February 2011, around the world, used for the classification and authentication of honey and apicultural products, for the geographical and botanical classification, as well as for the adulteration of honey and other apicultural products (as pollen and propolis). Topics are ordered in a way to allow easy reading and search of references.
