Resumen:
This study, inspired by the work of Hersperger et al. (2010), Plieningeret al. (2016), Sayer et al. (2013), and Hersperger et al. (2015), presents astate of the art and a systematic review of literature that identifies the forcesthat drive these changes in the landscape, and aims to move the discussionforward on the role of social actors in the direct and indirect drivers ofLUCC in South America. This review focuses specifically on:1. Characterise how LUCC studies have addressed the factors driving territorial transformations and landscape change in drylands.2. Identify how the direct and indirect drivers and the physical-biologicaland socio-economic consequences of the LUCC have been addressed.Drivers of land use and land cover changes in South America Within the territorial set called drylands of South America,we are particularly interested in the interface located between irrigated agricultureand adjacent areas, deepening the explanatory link of quantitative dataon land use (geolocated) with the understanding (also geolocated) of themain drivers. Classifying and analysing the drivers of change present inSouth American studies seek to evaluate the contribution of variables suchas demographic pressure, technological innovation, land prices, access towater, access to transport infrastructure, urban pressure, government policies or changes in global markets (commodity prices, economic crises, foreign investment).
