Resumen:
Two Enzymatic System for the Preparation of a New Immobilized Biocatalyst: Traditional chemical methodologies for synthesizing phenolic polymers involving formaldehyde for crosslinking purposes are highly pollutant. Hence, several different alternative strategies have been developed; thus, the use of enzymes is a very attractive alternative, and especially the use of peroxidases for these polymerization reaction allows a sustainable preparation of the above mentioned polymers with a remarkable regioselectivity. From an applied point of view, the high thermal stability of phenolic polymers enables its potential application in a wide variety of fields, such as adhesives, surface coatings, abrasives, flame retardants, etc. Moreover, these polymers can be functionalized with different moieties for its use as supports for immobilization of other enzymes, which will be later used in other biocatalytic reactions [1]. In this sense, in our research group we have recently started using soybean peroxidase (SBP) for catalyzing the polymerization of phenolic derivatives in different media, by using different amounts of hydrogen peroxide either in continuous feeding or batch mode, in order to analyze its influence over phenol polymerization [2]. These solid structures are being currently characterized, but they have showed to be useful as enzymatic support for immobilizing glycosidases, resulting in active biocatalysts.
