Latitudinal Gradient of Biting Midges in the Genus Culicoides (Diptera: Ceratopogonidae) in Argentina and Bolivia

Resumen:
We provide the fist records of 8 species of bitig midges in the genus Culicoides (Diptera: Ceratopogonidae) in a wide latiudinal gradient of the YungasEcoregion in Argentia and the Chaco Ecoregion in Bolivia, including a map of their distributin, and an updated checklist of species in the study area. Ad-ditinal locality records were obtained from published artiles and from specimens collected in these and other ecoregions in both countries. Included arethe fist Argentiean records of Culicoides crescenti Wirth & Blanton and C. pampaensis Spinelli & Wirth from Salta Province; C. caridei Brèthes, C. crescenti, C. gutttus Coquillett C. insignis Lutz, C. pampaensis, and C. venezuelensis Orti & Mirsa from Jujuy Province, and C. saltaensis Spinelli & Wirth and C.pampaensis from Tucumán Province. In additin, the fist records of C. brasilianum Foratti, C. crescenti, and C. gutttus are provided from Bolivia.
