Modelling of a pilot-scale VF wetland for dairy wastewater treatment

The aim of this work was to model the performance of a vertical flow (VF) wetland for nitrogencompound removal from dairy wastewater. A pilot-scale system was monitored and the collecteddata were used to fit stepwise multiple linear regression (SMLR) models. The obtained resultsshowed the competition for oxygen consumption among the pollutants through the ammonificationand nitrification processes. The modelling can be used with the international design guidelines toobtain a suitable dimensioning to the treatment requirements in the specific environmentalconditions of the application site.
