Resumen:
The aim of this work is to study Typha domingensis plants growing in wetlands that receive urbancontaminants. Two peri-urban and one natural wetland were studied. The wetlands were located near Santa Fe city, Argentina. They were located in an industrial park , in an urban ecological reserve (UER), and in the Middle Paraná River floodplain (control). Plants, water, and sediment were collected. In water, the industrial park showed the highest values of nutrients and metals. In sediment, the industrial park showed the highest metal concentrations, while the UER showed the highest TP concentration. Metal concentrations in plant tissues from the industrial park were the highest, while plants from the UER showed the highest TP tissue concentrations. Macrophytes are efficient bioaccumulators and biomonitors for metals. However, in wetlands it is necesary to carry out further studies focused in different plant species and contaminants. Besides, these studies could contribute to the knoweldge of plant mechanisms of contaminant accumulation in treatment wetlands.
