Resumen:
The Cenozoic foreland basins of Eastern Cordillera, Northwest Argentina. The stratigraphic and sedimentological characteristics of the Cenozoic deposits represent important tectono-sedimentary constraints on the evolution of the Andean foreland basin in northwestern Argentina. This nonmarine unit unconformably usually rests on top of the postrift deposits of the middle Eocene Lumbrera Formation (Santa Bárbara Subgroup, Salta Group) or older deposits.Eocene-Pliocene paleoenvironmental changes are a direct result of the tectonic sett ings and accommodation space. This study provides the results of integrated analysis of the basins of the middle to upper Eocene to Plio-Pleistocene in the Eastern Cordillera. The basins that have been generated in the region of the Central Andes of northwestern Argentina, during the Cenozoic tectonic convergence, are represented by fl uvial deposits of different topographical slope, with development of ephemeral fl uvial system with eolian dunes fi elds, from arid climates, sandy braided fluvial system, to gravel-sandy sinuous fl uvial system with development of lagoons and tropical climate with development of lagoons and marshes of tropical climate. These basins, probably connected in the fi rst stage of its development, are characterized by diff erent history of subsidence, evolution of the sedimentary palaeoenvironment, variations in topography slopes, changes in provenance, paleocurrents, which result in diff erent history tecto-sedimentary.
