Resumen:
The type fauna (Friasian sensu stricto) for the Friasian South American Land Mammal Age (Friasian sensu lato because in- cludes Friasian sensu stricto, Colloncuran, Laventan and Mayoan) came from Río Frías Formation (14.83 Ma 40Ar/39Ar Ma, Langhian, Middle Miocene) at Alto Río Cisnes (Aysén, Chile) and was first collected by Santiago Roth during 1897?1898. However the cingulates (?armadillos and glyptodonts?) of this collection deposited at La Plata Museum (Argentina) were never described nor figured. They were mentioned by several authors (e.g., Roth, Kraglievich, Bondesio) as the armadillo Prozaedyus Ameghino, and the glyptodonts ?Propalaehoplophorus, and ?Palaehoplophorus without further details. After a revision of this collection I could not find nor confirm the taxa identified by previous authors, but I identified four groups of disarticulated osteoderms of the carapace (MLP 16-171, MLP 16-172, MLP 16-173, MLP-174) in which I identified Dasypodidae Eutatini (Proeutatus sp.) and Euphractini (Vetelia cf. V. puncta), and Glyptodontidae Propalaehoplophorinae (Propalaehoplophorinae gen. et sp. indet. and Eucinepeltus cf. E. petesatus). This scarse assamblage of cingulates is so far, more similar to the older/coeval Santacrucian?Colloncuran than to the younger Laventan?Mayoan?Chasicoan assamblages.
