Resumen:
Schizophreniais one of the most debilitating psychiatric disorders. Approximately 1% ofhuman population is affected by this disease and its causes are unknown. Themedial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) is a region known to be altered inschizophrenia. We have shown that ablation of NMDA receptors (NMDAr),exclusively in corticolimbic parvalbumin positive interneurons (PV+) and duringearly postnatal development in mice, results in a schizophrenia-like phenotype. This phenotype emerges after adolescence and can not be obtained if NMDArablation is achieved during adulthood. This delayed onset reflects aninteraction between NMDAr ablation and normal development during adolescence. Nevertheless, the mechanisms involved in this interaction are still unknown
