X-ray binaries at the Cosmic Dawn

The contribution of X-ray binaries to the photon field driving reionization of the intergalactic medium at Cosmic Dawn is still under debate. This is mainly due to the lack of detailed knowledge about the populations of XRBs at these epochs. We explore this issue using synthetic population models coupled to galaxy formation simulations for the early Universe.Our preliminary results suggest that the metallicity dependence of XRB population luminosity make these objects a main source of ionizing photons at the earliest epochs of star formation.
