MmNi5 (Mm = misch metal) alloy was synthesized from raw materials by mechanical milling. Commercial Mm of nominal composition Ce 52.1wt%-La 25.5wt%-Nd 16.9wt%-Pr 5.5wt% and Ni were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). To investigate the alloy formation path, Ni was successively added to Mm and samples obtained at intermediate milling times were identified by XRD measurements and diffractogram simulation using DWBS software.
