Resumen:
Expression of HTLV-1 genes Tax and HBZ by target cells produce different effects over cytolysis by NK and γδ Tcells. The cytotoxicity by Vγ9/Vδ2 T cells against cells expressing viral proteins suggest that γδ T cells play arole in the immunosurveillance against HTLV-1. This finding are supported by cDNA spectratyping and by flowcytometry that showed Vδ2 T cells are decreased in HTLV-1 patients. Besides the cytotoxic effect by γδ T cells islikely not related to an upregulation of surface butyrophilins; further experiments need to be performed in orderto understand the cause of the different cytolysis patterns.
