BackgroundMonocyte activation plays a central role in the persistent inflammation associated to HIV chronic infection. Prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) is an immune modulator known to mediate inflammatory and anti-inflammatory effects, notably the inhibition of tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF) production by monocytes. Our aim was to investigate the role of PGE2 in the pathogenesis of chronic inflammation associated to HIV infection.MethodsWe recruited a group of people living with HIV (PLHIV, median age 37y, n=37) with viral load undetectable for at least 2 years and no comorbidities or coinfections. Healthy non-infected (NI) persons matched by sex and age were recruited as control group (median age 40y, n=29). All comparisons reported between groups are statistically significant (p
