Meloidogyne javanica has recently been detected for the first time in Argentina attacking the roots of Melilotus albus, a very common local weed species. Analysis of the histological alterations induced in the roots by the nematode showed a close relationship between the organisms with formation of functional and non-functional giant cells. Considering the great dispersion of M albus in the country and the wide range of known hosts for the nematode, the control of M. albus in the areas of agricultural production is highly recommended.
