Resumen:
The response of four pepper varieties (commercial lines: “Rubia-R” and “Silver”; experimental hybrids: “AF 6203” and “AF 6185”) to the attack by two Argentine populations of Nacobbus aberrans of different geographic origin was evaluated. All varieties, except “Rubia-R”, carry resistance genes to Meloidogyne spp. Based on the Reproduction Factor (RF) values, all varieties were susceptible (RF > 1) to the attack by one of the two populations. With respect to the other nematode population, “AF 6203” exhibited resistance (RF = 0), whereas “Rubia-R” and “Silver” varieties showed intermediate resistance (RF < 1) and “AF 6185” was susceptible (RF = 1.6). However, Gall Index and Egg Mass Index values obtained for both populations were those indicated for resistant plants (0-2). It is evidenced that N. aberrans populations are distinct biological entities that may exhibit different aggressiveness with a same host. The genes that confer resistance to Meloidogyne spp. in the pepper varieties tested did not prevent these plants from N. aberrans attack.
