Resumen:
Mechanical vibrations are consolidated in the industry as the main tool for diagnosing faults in rotating electrical machines. However, some faults have an electrical root cause and are difficult to be detected using vibration analysis. For those cases, stator current methods have been developed over the last years. They have proven to be effective in detecting both, electrical and mechanical faults; however, the interconnection between the two methods is still an open question. This paper makes a review of both methods and the attempts to combine them to enhance effectiveness at fault detection and diagnosis.
