Resumen:
Antecedents and lines of evidence allow us to hypothesize that vitamin D supplementation could help the defence process stimulated by vaccines by improving the production of specific antibodies against SARS-CoV-2, and also improving the immune response related to the antigen virus - together with antiviral protections - for its modulating response on cytokines and inflammatory mediators. To highlight, researchers from Canada are evaluating health professionals -through a prospective triple-blind study-, on the one hand, the possible protective effect as a function of vitamin D supplementation, and on the other the effectiveness of vaccination on defence against SARS-CoV-2 (risk of COVID-19 infection, disease and complications, NCT04483635). Thus, due to the above, we encourage the discussion of this hypothesis that we consider should be evaluated by the medical/scientific community since the acquisition of more robust protection associated with optimal levels of vitamin D could further strengthen the defences that vaccines induces against the COVID-19 disease.
