Resumen:
Many pharmacological interventions may provide great health benefits by preventing or attenuating GD, some of them may also be detrimental by inducing it. For this reason, new pharmaceutical strategies of drug administration should be implemented in order to overcome the mentioned drawbacks. In this regard, the use of nanocarriers to transport and release multiple therapeutic compounds in specific target sites could be a useful tool. Targeted drug delivery may be achieved by different strategies, such as passive (e.g. through morphometric features of nanotransporter), active (e.g. by surface functionalization of nanocarriers) or physic (e.g. through the application of magnetic fields) targeting. Thus, pharmacological interventions which are harmful for GM, may be programmed to be smartly oriented and delivered in the therapeutic targets while avoiding their undesirable actions on gut microbiome. In conclusion, due to their dual behavior, research on the direct or collateral effects of pharmacological interventions on gut microbiota results of special interest at the moment of considering different therapeutic guidelines for the treatment of multiple pathologies associated or not to the intestinal system. In addition, nanomedicine could be really helpful at the moment of designing safer and more efficient therapies for pathologies which may be positively or negatively affected by GM state.
